Jozef Pilsudski

Jósef Pilsudski's body being in the Wawel Cathedral in Kraków,  his heart is burried here.
Jósef Pilsudski's lichaam is opgebaard in de katedraal op de Wawel in Kraków.  Zijn hart ligt hier begraven.

Adam Mickiewicz

From this house the Polish-Lithuanian poet A. Mickiewicz was arrested and sent to Russia.  He never came back to Wilno.
In dit huis werd de Pools-Litouwse schrijver A. Mickiewicz aangehouden en naar Rusland gestuurd.  Hij zou nooit in Wilno terugkeren.

Chodkiewicz palace

The Chodkiewicz family bought a house on this place in 1611 and rebuilded it into a Renaissance residence. The present appearance is from 1834. In 1919 it was given to the university.
De Chodkiewicz familie kocht in 1611 een huis op deze plaats en verbouwde het in Renaissance stijl.  Het huidige uitzicht is van 1834.  In 1919 werd het aan de universiteit geschonken.

TV tower

In 1991 sovjet troops assault the TV-tower in an attempt to restore the sovjet authority.  14 unarmed civilians were killed.
In 1991 bestormden sovjet-troepen het TV-station in Vilnius, in een poging het sovjet regime te herstellen.  14 ongewapende burgers werden hierbij gedood.
